Why are bugs crunchy?

Ooooooohhh deeear!

Why did God create cochroaches? What is their purpose? They just crawl all around and poo little poos all over the ground. And when you step on them, they are crunchy, like egg shells, and their guts spew all over the floor.

Oh yah, because the computers here are slow, I can't upload any pictures to help you visualize the ugliness. But if you feel the need to donate a lap top to me, I'll gladly accept it. So for now, instead of having Sarah pictures, you can have internet pictures.

Moving into the base was kind of neat. We live in a place that is five mintues away from the base. With two big rooms (20 girls/room), it is actually quite cozy for two reasons. First because it feels like a giant girls sleepover party, and second because we also share it with a colony of cochroaches. As many of you know, I'm terrified of bugs. And when they're 2 1/2 inches long and 1 inch wide, they look pretty scary.

This morning, I found a baby cockroach crawling on the wall right beside my bed. I literally stared at it for 2 minutes. I was too afraid to hit it, and if i did hit it, i didn't want to hit it with my property then have the bug fall on my bed. Ahh...what are you supposed to do anyway? If anyone have cochroach stories or ways to get rid of them, please lemme know. Your advice will be well accepted.

Bugs are crunchy due to their exoskeleton. Since much of their integument (that is their exoskeleton) is composed of chitinous layers, there tends to be significant amounts of crosslinking between the polymers. In essence you create a large sheat that is fairly rigid in structure so when you happen to step on the bug these sheats snap and give you the characterstic bug squishing sound. I guess all I really wanted to say was that the sound is due to the composition of the bug outsides...that's all.!

Umm the best way to get rid of cockroaches...well my prof says they're really robust and can survive extreme conditions such as starvation and heat. My best bet would be to eat them since they're an excellent source of protein! much cheaper than meat..especially if you're on a 'student budget' of sorts! haha...anyways! have fun =)

moos.

Awww, sarah, bugs suck. But I guess no advice will beat Chris' advice. =)
I remember lots of cochroaches in the showers in Sydney. We just sprayed them with soap and water and they'll go away for about 5 minutes. I definately dont envy you for the bugs. Hopefully, though, you'll get used to them and come home completely fearless. =)
Anyways, we'll chat soon, Sarah! I miss you!

Thanks for all the genorous comments guys! They're hilarious!

Haha, eat them??? That is so gross! Nate and I were walking around the base yesterday and found this swarm of cockroaches devouring a snail. It was so gross cuz they crowded over it and you could barely see the snail..or what was left of it. NASSSTTY!!

But I'm glad to report that when i cleaned the kitchen today, there were no signs of cockroaches. Perhaps those deadly poisonous bates I bought last week really worked! PTL!

I suggest calling Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones from Men in Black the movie and have them kick the exo out them buggers. What? That movie wasn't real? Damn...

Make nate kill em. That's what he's there for.

Haha, thanx but I'd rather not have bug guts all over my dorm area.

Hey nice JANES website. What happened to 2mod5? Oh yah, today we were in China town and he found this Brass Monkey Hotel and Nate took a pic of it for you...whatever that means.

Hi Sarah,

For the past 45 minutes, I have been reading your updates, looking at your website, and your blog. = 0 In fact, this is the first time I have ever been on your blog. I have one word: "interesting..." Hahaha. Anyway, in regard to your bug problem, you can eith spray it with hair spray to paralyze it, and then vacuum it, OR you can simply have a jar an piec of paper ready. The latter method is basically placing the jar over it, then sliding the piece of paper between the jar top and the surface where the roach is. Once it's in the jar, just throw it back outside. In fact, you can put it near the guys dorm. J/k. Supposedly, bugs don't like mint. So maybe you could stick mint gum around your house. The cleanest and most affordable option is still the jar one though. I hope this helps. Lastly, you can also pray that they will leave you, and if they don't, then pray that god will change your heart and attitude. = ) May you stay rooted in God's Word, and focused on HIM. Love lots, Jackie <><
